Jedburgh Half Marathon

29 October 2006

County runners joined 650 other athletes for the last major road race of the season at the Jedburgh Half Marathon on the 29th of October. First HELP member home was super veteran Sandy Wallace from North Berwick in a time of 1hr 26min 22sec. Clubmates Frank McPartland (1:33:04), Brian Carr (1:35:47) and Paddy McDonald (1:36:42) followed in quick succession and all in the top 200 finishers.

British Energy Dunbar 10 Miles Race

Saturday 07th October 2006

Russian visitor Alexander Fedorov made it two county wins in a row following his victory at the Prestonpans Half Marathon last month. He joined another 150 athletes for the British Energy Dunbar 10 mile race on Saturday the 07th of October, after a tussle with local hill runner Brian Marshall, he edged home in 57mins 12 secs , 22 secs clear of the HELP athlete.

Prestonpans Half Marathon

Sunday 24th September 2006

Over a hundred athletes travelled to Prestonpans on Sunday the 24th of September to take part in the half marathon which has not taken place for 20 years. The new route by Levenhall, Wallyford, Preston, Longniddry and Port Seton suited most runners because of the long straights and the absence of hills. Race organiser Grant Aitken was delighted with the turn out.

Haddington Half Marathon

Saturday 12th August 2006

Local running club, HELP attracted 234 athletes to the annual Asics Haddington Half Marathon on Saturday the 12th of August.

A record 189 runners took part in the North Berwick Law race on a day when the wet weather made the conditions on the hill slippier than usual.

East Lothian Summer Series

Last year's successful series of six handicap races is being repeated in association with Dunbar Running Club and Musselburgh Athletic Club.

Edinburgh Marathon

Sunday 11th June 2006

County running clubs were well represented at the recent Edinburgh Marathon when almost 2000 runners failed to start or complete the 26mile course because of the extraordinary hot conditions.

Haddington 5 Mile Road Race

Saturday 3rd June 2006

There were local celebrations when host club HELP won the ladies team prize with Sarah Jeffray(38min28sec), Mary Ledingham(41:40) and Lisa Menzies(42:11) . Lisa's brother, Colin(30:00) led the HELP men in 21st place followed by Alan Proudfoot(31:17) and super vet Sandy Wallace(32:37) both in the top fifty.

A contingent of HELP athletes travelled to Rome to take part in the city marathon. A spring foreign tour has become a tradition in the club and this years outing was a repeat of two years ago for many of the ten representatives.

WXC Spittal - January 2006

The local rivalries were reversed again at the fourth event in the Eastern Borders Cross Country League at Spittal near Berwick upon Tweed.

WXC Galashiels - January 2006

HELP members travelled to Galashiels earlier in January for the first cross country race of the New Year and were rewarded with first overall place when Humbie farmer, Brian Marshall beat 100 athletes to the line after a tussle with Borders runner, Euan Jardine.

New Year Races - January 2006

Portobello Promathon

A dozen local runners got off to an early start in the New Year with the traditional four mile, Portobello Promathon race along the sea front on the first day. First HELP athlete home from the 300 entrants was Gavin Lightwood (23min37sec) in 43rd place.
