Paddy's great start !
Kelvin Hall - Glasgow - 30 December
Paddy Jumelle has been a member of HELP for a few years and initially enjoyed distance running and highlighted his career in 2005 when he completed the 94 mile West Highland Way in 19.33 hrs. However, Paddy's athletic career took an about turn when he took up boxing a year ago and changed his training to shorter speed work with the result that at the Kelvin Hall he took part in an Open Graded 400 metre B race and having only tried running on an indoor track once before won the race in an excellent time of 53.33secs. Auld Year’s Bash - Glasgow
Indoor Open Graded Meeting - 30 December
Three HELP athletes had a bash at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and achieved three PBs; Jack Graham (49) had a go at the long jump for the first time in his life and leaped 4.18m. Jack is Paddy Jumelle’s and Fundo Mhura’s boxing coach as well as a quality runner.
Paddy Jumelle won his 400m event heat in 53.33 showing that he has fast feet as well as fast fists for someone who competed in ultra running.
Fundo Mhura became a HELP member for the day and entered the shot put competition, Fundo had never thrown the shot put before but with some last minute advice from a rather bewildered but helpful official managed to throw well over 8 m.
